Music is a spiritual journey for me. It has a great power to influence. I use this power very consciously. I want to bring across a feeling of earthly physical and sensual elements, yet also sounds that bring forth deep emotions. Music is very powerful. I hear music in my dreams - sometimes it's a song that I've heard before, and sometimes it's something completely new to me and I kind of make the music in my dream. I also react immediately to music and sounds I hear... they make me see and feel certain emotions...
Essensual is about the way we all "shine" on the outside and keep the childhood scars on the inside. What I like about the new songs, is that being produced in a Pop-like fashion, they're a great contrast to the rather gloomy, bittersweet, angry or ironic lyrics (would I ever write cheerful lyrics?). Much peculiar thought lies behind the words... also a certain discomfort and bitterness. And much is about hidden feelings, various thoughts within the psyche, the bad experiences that shape us, thoughts about our real being - thus the title Essensual. It is also, as always, about "getting away"’ from this frustrating everyday life.

I think it's a little pessimistic too in some parts: "I open my mouth, but there comes no sound", "I'm dizzy and tired", "“We are undead", the lyrics of The Figurehead, etc. Essensual gives me feelings of loneliness, melancholy, distance, cold... but behind them I can see feelings of mystery, courage and hope. Are you agreeing with this? Is this a reflection of your vision of yourself or the outside world?
Both. Yes, it is, in many ways, a reflection of my thoughts and feelings about myself and the outside world. Like I said, I have put quite a bit of sarcasm into the lyrics. I describe in many ways, my experiences of being an artist... and a pretty woman. Like I describe in dead poetry, for example. Wherever I go, I fascinate, entertain, intrigue and inspire people... they all want my company for the moment... and they are jealous of me... but in the end, the artist girl is really alone... living in her own world... People always think artists have such glamorous lives... but often they are more alone then others.

The songs are very inspired by my childhood memories, bizarre occult experiences, wet dark streets of London, strange dreams, feelings of sadness, melancholy and lost love. Laguz - Within the Lake has less of a message and more of a feeling I want to bring across. Except the song Reverse, which is a bittersweet humoristic message: a dark goddess rises from the ground to remind abused women of their forgotten predator instinct, getting them to reverse and strike back...!
I think my dearest songs are Totems, My Visual World and Touch of Morpheus. Totems is a vision of wolves disguised as dark men, wandering, following me, seeking me... an image of other worlds and the decaying city. This is also a comic idea I am working on. Kind of in the same manner as the old black and white movie Carnival of Souls. My Visual World is about myself... walking through endless streets... seeing and searching. Touch Of Morpheus is about a vision of decadence, opium, absinth, the sleeper god Morpheus... and a gothic experience of my own...
Laguz is a rune which symbolises deep emotions, intuition, the deep water, the lake. It can be used to influence and speak to a person's subconscious. In this song, I describe a personal experience, a spell trying to influence someone. Symbolically, I describe the deep lake, yet the song is about a special someone I had met... we sit in a cafe in deep conversation, time goes by... and he "floats away" from me... and I drown in the lake of love... yes, also witches can fall unhappily in love...
About the song Where the Lonely Souls Go:
I saw this film about this poor girl in the victorian age. It was a really depressive and terrible story, and it made me really sad. So many people have been born into misery and suffering and no innocent person deserves this. And in the darkest hours of the night, I tend to think about how cruel and creepy this world can be. And it just got me thinking that we are all basically alone in the end. In death we are alone, and I guess our last journey we take alone. Will we remain alone after that? I think in some way, deep down we all feel alone. Not that it stops me from having a great time with my friends and loved ones, as I have many people around me that care a lot about me and think like me, but in some moments of sadness, noone can help you out of your feeling of loneliness...
